The practical magic kitchen was the first miniature project of the dollhouse and probably one of the hardest. recreating a 90s masterpiece is no easy task, but i studied the fundamentals (creamy whites and the warmth of 90s film, most important) and set to work! many of the items are chosen strictly because of their importance to the movie (midnight margaritas, anyone?) and some are from my own creation. in the movie there is not a painting over the mantle. but when designing this tiny space, it felt empty. it needed some weight. and so i decided to include a dutch masterpiece that might have been brought over with the family from their roots in europe! it’s a stormy scene with dark clouds and warm sunshine ahead (sound like the plot of practical magic, because it should!)
