Matisse has long been considered my all time favorite artist and has been a huge inspiration to both my own art and my design aesthetic. And so While creating this miniature set, I was intent to incorporate items from some of my favorite matisse paintings and some of his most famous work (the fish bowl, the bowl of lemons, a cut out piece of paper on his desk), but also items to signify his own passions and known facts about his own life (his love for birds, his travels to russia, his black cat.) i decided to photograph the studio in a light that i thought most resembled that of the light in southern france, a light that so vehemently inspired matisse and his work.
